OCC Grad Named Nurse of the Year
Ířşě±¬ÁĎ alumnus Mary Correll, of Wakefield, was recently named a Nurse of the Year by Deaconess Health System, receiving the Florence Nightingale Award for Deaconess Midtown Hospital. As stated in the award, “Florence Nightingale set the example of compassion, commitment to patient care and diligent hospital administration. This award is given in recognition of meritorious service of the nursing profession and is characterized by devotion, sincerity, dedication and compassion.“

New Evening Welding Certificate Available
Ířşě±¬ÁĎ is excited to announce it will offer an evening Welding and Cutting Certificate starting in Spring 2021. “This is such a great opportunity,” said Welding Specialist Maverick Fisher. “It’s a chance for high school seniors to get a jump on college. And, it’s especially helpful for someone who is working full-time and would like to pursue a career in welding, but can’t afford to give up their day job to come to college.”

Register Now! Mid-Semester Classes Start Oct. 16
Ířşě±¬ÁĎ is offering several fall mid-semester classes starting Oct. 16. Mid-semester courses are ideal for students who may have dropped a class this fall or for those who want to complete a course in just 8 weeks. Students looking to earn a humanities credit will have the opportunity to enroll in ART 1141 Cinema Appreciation with Instructor Heather Sandy. This is the first time the course has been offered in an 8-week format.

Anne Hustad Completes DNP Degree
Ířşě±¬ÁĎ Nursing Instructor Anne Hustad has completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. The DNP is one of two doctorate degrees available in the nursing field. SIU-E’s program combines classwork along with a comprehensive research project. “I am so excited to have it finished,” Hustad said. “I have been working on it for two years and COVID-19 changed how we did things. There was no graduation and I had to do my project and discussions through Zoom, instead of in person.”

OCC Spring 2020 Honors List
OLNEY, Ill. — Outstanding students at Ířşě±¬ÁĎ have been named to the Chief Executive Officer’s, President’s and Dean’s Lists for Spring Semester 2020. Students named to the Chief Executive Officer’s List have attained a grade point average of 3.90 or higher, on a 4.0 scale. Those on the President’s List have achieved a grade point average between 3.75 and 3.89, while those students named to the Dean’s List have earned a grade point average between 3.50 and 3.74.  Chief Executive Officer’s List: Albion: Shelby Dascotte

KJ Conklin Joins OCC Coaching Staff
KJ Conklin has joined Ířşě±¬ÁĎ as an assistant men’s basketball coach. “I am extremely excited about working with these players,” Conklin said. “I’ve had a chance to meet and work with them for the last two weeks and they have a passion to get better. With the delayed start to the season, we will have the additional time to do that. I am really looking forward helping them in their journey both off and on the court.”

Denton Publishes Book Featuring Latest Essays on JFK Assassination
Ířşě±¬ÁĎ Professor David Denton has published a collection of his latest essays regarding the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. The 88-page publication primarily focuses on new witness information and previously classified documents related to the Kennedy assassination, which were released by the National Archives in 2017. “The essays are my analysis of these things written over a three-year period,” Denton said. “The articles put a narrative and perspective to them.”
