Baseball Team Finishes in Final Four at National Tournament
The Wabash Valley College Men's Baseball Team recently fought their way to the semi-finals of the JUCO World Series. After a stellar season filled with all-star players who were ranked in the top 5 nationally in several categories (see below), the Warriors made it to the national tournament. There were several rounds of nail-biting games, but the Warriors managed to claw their way to the Final Four before falling just short of the Championship in their game with Central Arizona College.

LTC's Zakowski Serving as President of Phi Theta Kappa's Illinois Region
Lincoln Trail College will be represented in statewide leadership for Phi Theta Kappa for the second consecutive year. LTC’s Ethan Zakowski was elected to serve as the President of the Illinois Region.
He says that the new role means a lot to him. “I’ve started my leadership at a small scale here at LT and now I’m taking on this position at a larger scale. This role is going to help my search for my next college, helps me in the future workforce, and it also gives me a behind the scenes look at how organizations run which is of interest to me.”

Disney's The Lion King JR. Coming to LTC
Disney’s The Lion King JR. is playing at LTC starting on Saturday, June 25th at 7:00 pm and Sunday, June 26th at 2:00 pm. The 60-minute musical, designed for middle-school-aged performers, is based on the Broadway production directed by Julie Taymor and the 1994 Disney film.

Disney's Winnie the Pooh Kids Coming to LTC
Disney’s WINNIE THE POOH KIDS! is playing at Lincoln Trail College starting on Thursday, June 23rd & Friday, June 24th at 7:00 pm. The 30-minute musical, designed for elementary-school-aged performers, is based on the 2011 animated feature film. The Lincoln Trail College Children’s Summer Theater cast contains approximately 22 students led by Mindy Evans.

OCC Athletes Earn Academic Honors
Thirty-two Ířşě±¬ÁĎ athletes earned academic All-American status in 2021-2022. Baseball led the way with 18 total, followed by softball with eight and men’s and women’s basketball with three each.
Overall, softball had a team GPA of 3.47, women’s basketball earned a team GPA of 3.40 and the baseball and men’s basketball teams finished the academic year with team GPAs of 3.36 and 3.34, respectively. As an athletic department, the overall GPA for all four sports was 3.38.

Jim Glash Returns as Head Coach for Blue Knights Basketball
Jim Glash is back where his head coaching career began with Ířşě±¬ÁĎ men’s basketball.
“This is very much like coming home,” said Glash, who coached the Blue Knights for nine years. “The community here is amazing. So many people care about Ířşě±¬ÁĎ and the men’s basketball program. It’s something I loved being a part of the first time I was here and something I’m looking forward to now. This is where I started as a head coach at the collegiate level and this is where I want to end my coaching career. I feel like I have come full circle.”

Laurel Cutright Serving as IMACC President
Ířşě±¬ÁĎ Professor Laurel Cutright is serving as the 48th president of the Illinois Mathematics Association of Community Colleges.
Cutright was sworn into office in April, following a one-year term as the organization’s president-elect. A member of the association for 21 years, Cutright has served three terms on the IMACC Board of Directors.
Cutright noted, “I am the third faculty member from OCC to serve as president, which is pretty awesome. Out of 48 community colleges in Illinois, to have three presidents from OCC — to me that is pretty impressive.”

New Trees Planted at Frank C. Gibson Memorial Site
A memorial grove of redbud and dogwood trees will once again bloom on the Ířşě±¬ÁĎ campus after being restored this spring.
Erected at the entrance to the North Parking Lot, the site honors Frank C. Gibson, of Olney. The 24-year-old concrete worker was fatally injured in an accident on Sept. 7, 1972, during construction of Wattleworth Hall’s third floor.
The memorial, which includes a stone monument, was established through the OCC Foundation’s Frank C. Gibson Fund.
